Hong Kong Cafe

I went to Hong Kong Café for lunch yesterday near Novena Square. Since it had been interviewed by many major newspapers and magazines I’m looking forward to give it a visit and try the food there. And, when I actually get to taste the food there, I was utterly disappointed.

Food we (me and my mother) ordered:

1. Deep Fried Pork Cutlet Rice $8.50

It was not very impressive, in fact, it was quite badly done. I expected the curry to be a little different from the Singapore-Indian style curry since it claimed to be Hong Kong’s most famous and well-liked dish. However, I was more than disappointed when I actually tasted it! It tasted like those “Chap Cai Peng” curry! Furthermore, the pork cutlet is not cut into pieces; it is being served in one full piece! Hey, I don’t have such a big mouth to put that whole chunk of meat into me mouth! Besides all these, it seems like their salt are free of charge, the things there were too salty! I definitely won’t recommend this dish for patrons!

2. Po Luo Bun with Char Siew $1.80

What can I say more about this dish? A Char Siew Bao for $1.80?!?! I can get a Khong Guan nice Char Siew Bao for half of its price!

3. Wanton Mee (Soup) $7.20

I expected something more for this! I mean its 7 bucks; I thought I could taste abalone (Just joking). But seriously, this bowl of Mee is definitely not worth 7 bucks! The Mee itself were not great. And the Wanton actually contain prawns (unfresh ones)! Do they actually know the meaning of Wanton Mee? Wantons are not supposed to contain any prawns! Anyway, as mentioned earlier, the fillings of the Wanton are too salty.

4. Milk Tea (Cold) $2.50

This is supposed to be one of the best and most popular milk tea in Hong Kong, however, I feel that the taste of the tea is too strong, suppressing the taste of the milk.

I still had a very lousy dessert before marking an end to the lousy lunch. I was very disappointed by their quality of food. Maybe that branch that I visited wasn’t too good with the food since it’s their new branch.
